One of our highlights from last year was Sasaya and Jussi wedding in Thailand. We shoot 2-3 weddings a year in Thailand, so we’ve shot a lot of weddings IN Thailand...but this was our first actual traditional THAI wedding! And it did not disappoint. It was stunning with beautiful traditions from beginning to end. I found it very interesting how there were many similarities with other cultural weddings, such as, Chinese, Indian and Indonessian that we have done before. I always appreciate the respect and honouring of tradition and family members in more cultural weddings.
One of the highlights was Sasaya's stunning dress. She really explains it best, so I’ve stolen this from her IG (I hope you don’t mind Sasaya ;)
“I’ve always wanted to wear a very traditional dress. Not only for the aesthetics but for the experience. Working in a textile industry and growing up with an avid textile collector (AKA, mum) which made this experience so precious to me. Traditional costumes like this one has to be meticulously hand draped and sewn piece by piece onto the body of the wearer. Not to mention how traditionally they used to scent these with smoked flowers in old trunks. The intricacy of the whole process even before you can wear it ... is magical. The heavy brocade, gold embroidery sash and antique jewellery must have weight over 4kg - I’ve learnt so much from @wedding_chansoma and their team of gurus who have studied royal court costume from Pre-Ayutthaya era and it was a real privilege to be able to wear this national dress. (I am not calling it a Thai dress because technically, it was before Thailand was consolidated as a country). This is an art form that has been around for over 400 years! Let’s just say, waking up at 3am to be ready by 7am was worth it! “
Her bridesmaids also wore a traditional dress and then changed into custom dresses, each with unique details and cutouts, and I wanted to wear them all! The event took place at the boutique, Botanical House. A gorgeous and peaceful venue that I am already dying to go back to. The afternoon was filled with heartwarming speeches from guests who flew from across the globe to celebrate them. If you met Sasaya & Jussi, you would know why...they are pretty fabulous people. This was just Part 1 of their wedding. A couple days later everyone hopped on a plane for Part 2 in Koh Samui! Check out our next blog post to see the beauty and fun there!
